5:00 PM
Downtown arrival & first check-in
Park near Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. Hand off water, then confirm energy level, touch boundaries for the night, and how late feels comfortable.
5:05–5:55 PM
Dinner & baseline
Hidden House (upscale) or a nearby pub (casual). Before sliding closer in the booth or putting an arm around shoulders, ask instead of scooting silently.
6:00–6:45 PM
Sugarland + Tumbleweed Tree wander
Take turns holding the phone so both of you show up in the camera roll. Finish a full water before cocoa/sweets; ask before close selfies or waist wraps under the glow.
6:45–7:05 PM
Drive to Upland
Check stimulation levels. Decide if you want a walking loop, slow drive with music, or both.
7:05–8:00 PM
Upland Families Christmas Lights
Walk the synced block, then mid-way ask: “Still good on crowds? Hand-holding, linked arms, or no-touch for now?”
8:00–8:15 PM
Transition to Dulce
Turn volume down, reset, and set a hard stop time so the night doesn’t feel open-ended.
8:15–9:15 PM
Dulce Churro Café nightcap
One shared churro build + one drink each is usually enough sugar. Debrief: best moment, anything off, one tweak for next time.
9:15–9:30 PM
Aftercare & home
Half a bottle of water each before driving. Confirm route home and whether anyone wants five minutes of quiet before more conversation.
Cold snap pivot
If temps dip below ~50°F at sunset, shorten Sugarland and trade it for extra time at Dulce where you can warm up inside.
Crowd overload
If downtown is slammed, grab one park photo and head to Upland early. If Upland is packed, do a single walking loop, then listen to the synced station from the car.
Dulce closed or slammed
Pivot to a dessert/coffee spot on Chandler Blvd and reuse the same debrief questions. If the line is intense, order to-go and eat in the car.
Energy dip exit
Skip Dulce and head home, but still run hydration + aftercare so it ends gently.
Hydration rhythm
Water before leaving home, once downtown, once before Upland, and once before the drive home. Cocoa and churros do not count.
Consent checkpoints
Before first hand-holding/arms around shoulders in public; before tight Sugarland spots; before carriage rides; and at the end of the night for any “more time together” discussion.
Sensory tuning
Shoes for city blocks + sidewalks, layers that open/close in the car, and optional earplugs if constant music + chatter feels like too much.
Exit / sequel texts
- Before leaving Dulce — “This was fun. Let’s get home safe, hydrate, and I’ll text you when I’m inside.”
- Once home — “Home and in comfy clothes. Thanks for tonight and the Upland glow. Anything you want more or less of next time?”
- Next-day check-in — “How’s your body and social battery today? If you’re down, I’d love to plan another low-key loop after the holidays.”
